Summary
“Today was eventful.” Pope says, him and JJ sitting on the floor, lit blunt between his fingers.
JJ scoffs. “We didn’t even do anything.”
“Yeah, well, eventful to me,” Pope says more truthfully than he’d like as JJ motions for the blunt. “Oh. Shit, sorry, I always hog it.”
“You’re good,” JJ mutters in quick forgiveness, taking a hit. He concedes, tacking on, ”Yeah. We need to do that more.”
There is nothing humorous in the tone in which Pope remarks, “What, go on dates?” so it makes sense that neither of them laugh.
JJ says, voice light as a feather, “Yeah, maybe,” and then he’s leaning in, on Pope’s lips so quick that Pope doesn’t get the chance to inhale.

Summary
Dean was always present, bright-eyed, all stupid jokes and quips, always has been. Still is, in fragments; he’s there, driving the Impala, but he’s quiet most times, looking at the road, rock records rumbling through the speakers. He’s there, snoring in the motel bed next to Sam’s. He’s there, giving Sam advice, cracking dumb jokes, helping with nightmares, reminding Sam to eat. But he’s not as there as he used to be. That determination in his eyes is weird. It doesn’t look the same.

Summary
“I can’t believe that you aren't even slightly mad at me. You're different now, huh? Not a little crazy, like you should be, but different.” Matt says, curiously.
“You're different too, cunt.” Joe cracks a smile. “I dunno. Something happened to me, one of those days right when you left. I stopped spiraling. And fuck, I’m still real sad. But I just live here now. I had to make curtains for the window, take down the clock, hide the snow globe, but. I’m living.”

Summary
" . . . Okay," April responds.
She hears faint bubbling.
Getting up from the couch, April sees a giant sluggish glob of bubbles creeping their way through the hallway. Andy saw it, just now, and didn't say a thing.

Summary
Garraty clears his throat, then asks, “What about you, Pete? You got a lady?”
McVries holds Garraty’s gaze for a moment, intensely, then says, “No, Ray. No, I don’t.”
Every molecule of Raymond Garraty slows to a snail’s pace. McVries peers at him, dark eyes half-lidded, smiling softly. Garraty feels a little like he’s fallen behind in a race he didn’t know he was running.
They keep looking at each other, silently, until McVries’s lips quirk up like Garraty’s said something funny, and he lifts his bottle to his lips.
“What is it?” Garraty asks. “What’s so funny?”
McVries shakes his head, still wearing that knowing smile. “Nothing, Ray. Not a thing.”
Ray Garraty and Peter McVries fuck around, get together, and fall in love. Not necessarily in that order.

Summary
“I can’t imagine it,” Garraty said. “Any of it. The house. The family. A future.”
McVries tilted his head, watching him out of the corner of his eye. “You can’t imagine a wife? A white-picket-fence life?”
“I can’t imagine anything except you, right now.”

Summary
“We stopped,” Garraty said, slurring a little. Still half asleep and tearful.
“Yeah.”
“Don’t let go of me, please.”
“I won’t.” McVries dug his fingers into the meat of Garraty’s shoulder. “I won’t.”
“Promise.”
“I promise.”
