There are things Macklin Celebrini knows to be objective truths. His identity as a beta is one of them. And since betas don’t have heats, only omegas do, it makes perfect sense that Mack didn’t think anything of his emotional instability this past week, or his increased clinginess towards Will. It’s perfectly reasonable that he didn’t think too hard about waking up this morning, an hour early, and with a headache, restless, and unsettled in a way he couldn’t quite name.

Summary
Ett år efter Johannes liv vänts upp och ner är han tillbaka där allt hände. Om 1985 var sommaren av förändring, var 1986 sommaren av dess konsekvenser. Förra året hade han hade märkt hur barndomen sakta hade runnit ur hans händer, men nu såg han verkligheten framför sig. Den var mestadels över, de kunde låtsas att allting var okej och fortsätta som innan, men det var oundvikligt att alla bar på tyngden av att växa upp. Inget var desamma på Särsö, det var som att det låg ett mörk moln över öborna. Johannes försöker navigera den första sommaren utan sin pappa, utan Helena, utan den naivitet han haft i barndomen.
