Summary
In 2010 Edward Teach found fame in his early thirties and his first large purchase was a sprawling house set on a hill that his mother had once worked in. He wanted to give her the world now that he had the money to make sure she always had everything she wanted.
He was surprised when a Bonnet came through the crumbling wall that surrounded the house, cheerfully greeting him with a sickly sweet confection and a smile that it was easy to fall into. For everything he'd heard about the Bonnets growing up, this man seemed to be the exception.
In the present, Edward regretted never listening to the rumors and warnings about the Bonnets, because he had fallen in love and seen the reality of what that meant. Returning home for his mother's funeral all he can do is be grateful this is the last time he'll ever have to be in a town with the man that crushed him.

After all, surely nobody wants to buy a gay romance written by a single, middle-aged man who has spent most of his life married to a woman? But Stede’s latest book and unexpected hit, Crossing Swords with the Pirate Captain, is being turned into a movie and his favourite actor, Ed Teach, has asked to audition for the lead role.
Action hero Ed Teach is sick of the grind and performative masculinity that the action genre, and his agent Izzy, demand. He wants to branch out, he wants to come out and auditioning for the romantic lead in a film about gay pirates feels like the perfect way to do that.
