this story drops us right in at the beginning in the middle of a moment of stomach-turning turmoil and immediate consequence. every individual reaction from each of the characters in this story is so realistic - george, paul, ringo, brian, paul's father, jane, the press. there's a lot of empathy and emotion in this, as well as a heaviness that comes from the reality of a fallout like this during this time in history, but the way that the story moves towards a meaningful resolution is so satisfying. this is also one of those classic cases of having to imagine what on earth it would sound like for john and paul to actually communicate about something, and the author handles the "what if they did?" so well. a beautifully written story, an incredibly realistic view of a time in history, excellent characterisation, and a fascinating conceit executed brilliantly.

paul finds himself thinking on linda's comment that she liked john first. a really fascinating delve into the psychology and sexuality of paul's repression. there's an incredible realism to this, a messy, human clumsiness to the way paul wades through the notion of his desire, and an incredibly astute, nuanced portrayal of his relationship with linda. between the two of them, they're creating an ambiguous grey space where it's not as straight up clear as paul acting out a direct sex fantasy borne of his latent attraction for john, but it's something entirely more psychological - it's about gender roles, and obsession, and love, and a disrupted narrative, and the desire to heal, and oppressive masculinity, and jealousy, and grief, and having sex about it.

an exploration of the get back era tensions between john and paul. also features an incredible conversation between john and yoko that has such a subtle understanding of yoko's character, the strength of her relationship with john, her empathy for him, but also her own flaws and her interesting way of guiding john down a certain path (and john allowing himself to be led). this story imagines what john's "very strong dream" might have been, the one mentioned in the cut tapes from the get back doc, and gives a fascinating insight into the raw and repressed feelings happening in the john and paul dynamic at the time. a truly excellent script-format story, with an incredible sense of character voice, and character motivation. this is such a fresh and unique way of exploring these super compelling moments in beatles canon, and the author has a masterful way of letting the dialogue speak for itself when it comes to filling in the gaps of these stories.

after mrs. barbour's death, boris comes to stay with theo and kitsey. an ill-advised tryst and reflections on the past follow. an incredible read. beautifully written. so full of detail and feeling. a really pleasing complexity to the character dynamics, a kind of fumbling humanity, moments of sadness and joy and comfort. the whole narrative is shaped so masterfully around these compelling visual details - a scar, a shoe, a book, a blanket. it folds so effortlessly into canon. an absolute feast of beautiful writing. thoughtful, detailed, just an incredibly satisfying read.
