Summary
Eddie comes back after a while, but he's not quite the same. He recognizes all the people that visit him in the hospital, but he doesn't know them, like they're songs he's heard before but can't sing along to. He's paler, and colder, and he has extra teeth now.
And Steve can't stop falling in love with him, especially when Eddie won't stop staring at him, all wide-eyed and full of wonder and curiosity.

"Are you serious?" he says again, and his eyes are wide and shining, and he suddenly looks like he's the kids' ages, like he's just a boy with a crush instead of a man that had to grow up too fast and then never got the chance to slow down. She shrugs, smiling a little. "Do you think I could do it?" he asks almost excitedly, giddily, and God, she loves him.

Summary
But he didn’t have to know what to say, because a moment later Eddie was hugging him tightly, clutching at him, desperately gripping the back of his jacket and pulling him so close Steve could feel his heartbeat against his own chest. Steve hugged him back, shushing him softly without thinking as he wrapped his arms around him and felt him fall against him.
The others watched in confusion, and Steve looked away from Robin’s wide eyes, closing his eyes and burying his face in Eddie’s neck, allowing himself the relief that the sound of Eddie’s crying brought. Eddie was trembling, shaking like a leaf in the wind, and Steve ached.

"Don't fuckin' talk about yourself like that, Steve," he says, swallowing his anger, because he can tell Steve doesn't need that right now, doesn't need someone to be angry at him. "You don't have to apologize for... for being overwhelmed."
"That wasn't normal, Eddie," Steve says.
"You think I give a shit about normal?"
