Summary
Being an unbonded omega in the NHL has never really been seen as a good thing. Some fans still have their biases about it, and even some team owners do too. Unless an omega is a fucking superstar of a player, the NHL does not care about them at all.

“Fuck.” Shane melted into the strong hand at his neck, the pressure over his throat and the heat of the Alpha’s palm. “Fuck, that’s–” his eyes started to flutter closed, his knees going weak, but he heard the Alpha huff a laugh and immediately stiffened again.
“Don’t do that.” he warned. “Don’t laugh like me letting you put your hand on my throat is predictable submissive Omega behavior and you're making fun of me."
“That is not why i was laughing.” Ilya squeezed Shane’s throat lightly, his thumb pressing over the suppressant patch covering the Omega's bonding spot and blocking his sweet scent. “I thought you would fight it, fight submitting. But you didn’t.”
“No I–” Shane swallowed hard. “I like it.”
“Good.” Ilya smiled slow and a little dangerous, running his tongue over his bottom lip and then over the sharp ends of his fangs before he leaned in and growled into the Omega’s ear. “Now get on your knees.”

Truth is, he could just say it. He could just be honest.
Ilya, I'm worried you will see all these hot naked women and remember you miss them. Ilya, I'm worried I'm not enough. Ilya, I'm worried you'll come home and see me in comparison, so inelegant, so bulky, so brash, and realize this is wrong for you. That I am wrong for you. But saying all this would mean opening this entire huge clunky box thing, which only remains closed in virtue of Shane never looking at it for more than two seconds. So he says nothing.
But one rule supersedes all other rules regarding Ilya: if he wants to fuck around, Shane will make sure he finds out.
Or: Shane gets himself a set of pretty lingerie as revenge, and Ilya comes all over his pretty panties embarassingly fast.
