“I’m not sure I do.”
He traced a finger over the dips and valleys of Jaemin’s knuckles, hooking it gently underneath his pinky. She was already two thirds buried into the ground. Clumps of black dirt clung to her pale shins, speckling the undersides of her feet like the shell of quails’ eggs. Any paler and they could mistake her for wild fungi. Maybe in a few months, that’s what she’ll become. Maybe by then she’ll be gone completely. Scattered, never to be whole again.
“I am not good. And I am nothing,” He smiled. “You have no idea how much relief those two things give me. I know these two things and there is nothing I can’t do. Nothing I can’t overcome.”
“How do you know either of those things are true?”
“Because I make them so.”

He slid his cheek up against the warm, slightly sticky skin and pressed one more kiss against Jaehyun’s tummy, sighing. He looked up. “You’ll have a turn too.” Looked between them. “Both of you. You can take turns, um.” Chuckled through his nose. “-like footsing me…is that how you call it?”
