Newt couldn't take the sleepless nights or the anxiety and jealousy he felt thinking about his boyfriend going out late with Teresa. When Thomas finally comes home drunk and smelling of her, Newt snaps. He doesn't mean the vicious attacks he sends to Thomas in the form of anger rolling off his tongue. It just happens. And once the words are out he can't stop himself from inflicting more damage. And Thomas doesn't think he can handle the aftermath.
