Saying those words out loud makes Annabeth’s stomach growl. She feels nauseous, which she figures probably is not just psychological, all things considered. She has no idea what she’s going to do about this yet, but saying the word father actually makes it feel like a baby for the first time. It was bad enough that Annabeth had to call someone to come tow her car after she crashed it into a snowbank in the middle of nowhere. Even worse? That “someone" being Percy Jackson: the ex she was definitely, completely, 100% over.
