Summary
“So, Mr. Boyfriend.” Ilya said with a slight shake of his head, his fingers tapping a rhythm up Shane’s chest.
“Does your girlfriend know you like sucking cock?”
Shane decided then that he didn’t like the sound of the word girlfriend coming out of Ilya’s mouth. It sounded almost vulgar to him, pumped full of rolling r’s.
“No, I haven’t told her.”
Ilya cocked his head at that and asked, “Are you scared she will judge you?” Shane looked into his eyes and found sincerity there, so he answered with what felt like the truth to him, “I’m not sure if I like it in general, or if it’s just with you.”
He leaned in until their noses were touching and their lips were millimeters apart. “Just with me.” He said it softly, like a prayer that he breathed into Shane’s open mouth.
“Just you.” Shane said and for years to come he’d blame what he did next on his state of pseudo inebriation.
Set after the club scene: Shane runs off, Ilya follows.

Summary
Ilya in 2014 had no idea his time with Hollander was so limited — something that Ilya in 2016 knows all too well.
Ilya in 2016 is also playing hockey like shit. The version of himself on the television misses an easy shot, and the commentators tear him apart for it. Ilya, watching from his bed, is inclined to agree with them. His father’s decline is almost a blessing this month, when his usual level of vitriol would be for once so entirely deserved.
He’s thinking about all of this, beer in hand, when there’s a knock on his door.
