Summary
Ed stands in front of the mirror and puts his hands on his belly. There’s nothing there, really. Just the pudge of comfort, of settling down. He purses his lips at the picture he makes. A man longing for something he can’t have.

Summary
Ed gets restless.
She’s almost disappointed about it. The house is done, everything’s more or less put together. Now they’re just collecting furniture. Switching a couch out for another that suits them better. Ed gives her opinions, but Stede is more aligned with the ways of interior design than Ed is. So she’s just kind of sitting. And looking around. Sometimes she reads, but mostly she will sit and look around and be tended to. Watered (with tea), fed (with charcuterie). Like a potted plant.
“Or a flower,” Stede says, leaning down to give her a kiss on the cheek.

Stede knows Ed entirely and completely and absolutely up to a certain point. The certain point is kind of making itself known right now.

Summary
Ed does't remember what the sun feels like on his face.
He didn’t forget the entire existence of sunny days; he remembers squinting his eyes against the horizon, he remembers having to plan higher water rations, he remembers the stink of a full ship in high summer, he remembers warmth, but only academically.
He can’t remember how it felt in his bones, in his skin, in his chest, to have the center of the entire universe’s light and life pointed right at him.
So when the sun comes back, all he can do is trust his instincts, jump headfirst, and hope he catches him.

Summary
He looks ridiculous, he’s sure of it.
What the fuck was he thinking, buying himself something so beautiful, so feminine? The bodice pushes his flesh just enough to give the illusion of cleavage, his waist pulled in so the skirt fans out across his hips and falls in delicate waves down over his legs. Delicate, that’s how it makes him feel. Like one of Stede’s pieces of finery. Like something beautiful.
Why did Ed ever think he was deserving of feeling such a way?
Or: Ed wears a dress and has some Big Gender Feels about it.
