Erik nods. He’s still looking down the hill, his face curious and austere, watching the children on the swings, two of them side by side, swooping higher and higher, legs thrown out in front of them, hanging for a moment at the top of the arc, weightless, and then falling back towards the ground, shrieking and breathless.
