The thought of touch still unsettled him; the brush of another’s hand, the intimacy of a kiss... Anything could summon shadows of shame, leaving him feeling tainted, dirty, unworthy.

Summary
Forced together on a world-saving mission, Gale and Astarion's animosity burns until a brush with death turns rivalry into quiet devotion when Astarion goes down during a perilous mission and Gale takes on the weight of his recovery. As ambitions tempt their souls and desires complicates matters, they fight the Cult of the Absolute, all the while trying to confront the chaos within themselves.
A kiss before the final battle shakes the very fabric of their fragile friendship, and deciding to live together afterwards only heightens the tensions — Gale fears hurting Astarion, and Astarion feels unwanted, stranded in a home that isn’t truly his.
Love, slow and aching, grows between the cracks, and in the end, it's not fate that will keep them together, but the choice to stay.

Summary
Like most of Gale’s problems since the Nautiloid, this whole mess is Tav’s fault. He doesn’t know exactly what Tav told Astarion when Gale was out of the room, but he trusts that they didn’t betray his confidence. Probably.
Whatever it is has made Astarion act even stranger than normal and it is threatening Gale’s very carefully curated compartmentalization of his feelings for the man.
