Summary
Sydney saw herself every morning. Dark skin, dark hair, dark clothes, all variances of grey. The only colors she could decipher amongst the dreary, colorless backdrop of her life were staring back at her— one brown, one blue.

Summary
"I want to talk to you..” There was so much he had broken, so much he needed to fix. The old Carmy would have blown up or ran off, leaving others to clean up his mess as he licked his wounds. But now? This Carmy? The one who had Sydney by his side and everything in the world to fight for? He wasn't going to let himself get in the way of this. Of them.

Summary
Most American politicians wouldn't come within ten miles of a Berzatto security detail, especially with a man like Carmy. He had a rap sheet a mile long and more tattoos than clearances.

Summary
Unorthodox wasn't the typical Pan Pacific Defense Corps style, but then again, the Berzatto brothers had never been their usual type of recruits. They were a wildcard the first go around. The second? Most people considered him nothing more than a liability. He couldn't say he blamed them. Most of the compound avoided him like the plague. Unstable, they said. Haunted. Could they really expect anything less?

Summary
There was little sense to be made of them. Why, of all the souls in the universe, would hers be tied to his. Fate was cruel, finding humor in such ironies. Fire and ice.

Summary
“That was… a while ago.” He managed to hold it together, even when his voice broke on the words. She didn’t realize she was holding his hands in a death grip until she pulled away, the color returning to his fingers.
“How long?” She held his gaze. Better to rip off the bandage and get it over with.
"Six years.” It felt like the floor fell out from under her.

Summary
For all the practiced patience of a healer, she’s a rabbit’s hair shy of annoyance. Since she pulled him from the river bank, he had been nothing short of a nuisance— those sapphire blue eyes boring into her soul, making her thoughts jumbled. He hardly spoke, though Sydney was certain she would have liked him better if he was garrulous and foolhardy. Then she would at least gain some fruitful knowledge of his true nature and origins. He was more myth than man, sulking around the grounds, haunting her like a ghost. He rarely left a footprint, his feet falling in step behind her. Hovering close. She wanted to shake some sense into him.

Summary
“Sydney.” Her name sounded different when he said it. Like no one had ever really said her name before. She was losing it. “It's a pleasure.” With a nod and a wave, he sauntered off, leaving her standing in the doorway, staring after him.
When she finally recovered, her pot was burning.

From her sleeping nook, tucked away in the corner of the main foyer, she could still peer out into the endless cosmos, the distant silhouette of the Earth peering back.
“Goodnight, Blue.” She closed her eyes and drifted off, knowing that stars would be awaiting her when she woke.

An alliance between the two groups would be undeniably powerful and unavoidably dangerous. A terrible idea, really. Probably why Carmen agreed to it.

Summary
“Uh.. you good?”
“Fuck no but who is at a funeral?” She quipped back, a wry sort of smirk tugging at her lips. Her voice was raw, like she’d been crying for days. Her hands slid into her lap, arms heavy as if they were weighted down with cement. She blew out a breath, hard. Her gaze finally shifted to the driver's seat. A flurry of emotions crossed her face, a flicker of recognition in her impossibly brown eyes.
