Kageyama Tobio was born in a Shinto shrine in Kyoto, raised in Sendai, and educated in Tokyo. For his entire life, he’d rejected being locked into any sort of constraining label: traditional omega, modern athlete, national treasure. He could be a top professional athlete and still visit his family’s shrine every summer. He could remain unmarried and childless but still embrace being an omega.
