Summary
Will and Jane Byers are borrowers who live in the mall vents. They have spent their secluded existence minding their own business, but lately, they have found themselves coming back to Scoops Ahoy, intrigued by two snarky humans who won’t stop bothering each other on the clock… and also haven’t noticed that after each of their shifts, a mysterious figure come in and robs the register. When Max is fired for her supposed negligence, the borrowers realize that they're the only ones who know the truth.
But they can't reveal themselves! They can't... right?

Summary
“It’s okay,” says the person, voice trembling as they run gentle fingers through Mike’s hair. It feels nice. Even through the pain, it feels nice.
Then again, Mike isn’t used to casual touch. He has spent the past five years pushing it away.
He opens his eyes weakly, grimacing at the sunlight pouring through. It’s blocked by a head, the person he’s sitting on. From this angle, their features are upside down, obscured by the light behind them.
But he can make out some. It’s a young man, maybe around Mike’s age, with brown hair, soft eyes, soft features. He looks kind. He looks gentle.
Truthfully, he looks a lot like—
“Will?” Mike mumbles, blinking wearily.Or: Mike hasn’t been the same for the last five years. Ever since he lost Will, it’s like he’s been wandering aimlessly in search of purpose. But when he stumbles upon a fairy ring that leads to a magic world and a familiar face, he has to determine what exactly his purpose is and where his priorities lie.
