Summary
Robby hates days like this, quiet and strangely calm, like right before a storm starts. This tranquility just gives him enough time between each patient to dwell deep into his thoughts, which often tend to be a dark spiral about work and what had gone wrong during the last trauma that didn’t manage to make it to the OR, the patient with something they didn't catch in time. However, nowadays those still moments are filled with something else, always drifting towards a particular topic, a certain person Robby can’t get out of his mind, no matter how hard he tried—though, admittedly, he might not be trying as hard as he should.
Robby has a crush, not that he will admit it, and he really likes Whitaker's new hairstyle.

Dennis takes a deep breath in to calm himself, but as he breathes out, he confesses, “Trinity made a bet with Samira that I could get anyone in the bar to buy me a drink because I kind of have a knack for it, but Samira chose you, and now they’re watching us, and I’m so sorry.”
His boss blinks at him a couple of times, probably figuring out the least problematic way to fire him or berate him for being so damn unprofessional. He should’ve just said no to Trinity and Samira and killed the vibes for the night; he’d prefer that to whatever Robby is about to say. He can already see the anger bubbling up inside him that’s going to—
“I’ll buy you a drink.”
Dennis stares at him, unblinking. After a few seconds, he manages to ask, “What?”
“I’ll buy you a drink,” Robby repeats, then leans over to pat the bar stool next to him. “But you’re going to have to earn it.”

“Santos recently got into soccer and she’s been pulling Dennis into it,” Robby elaborated, and Dana couldn’t tell you why she didn't question in that moment why he knew that fact. “We’re talking about which team to support, since Pittsburgh doesn’t have one.”
“Robby doesn’t even have a team,” Whitaker complained, and the lack of honorific was so obvious in hindsight, though right then Dana had hardly questioned when the resident had gotten so comfortable with the attending. “He just roots for whoever is playing against Philly.”
“City loyalty,” Robby emphasized again, causing the younger man to roll his eyes once more and huff out an exasperated sigh.
“Sorry, kid,” Dana offered to Whitaker. “I’m with Robby on this one. Fuck Philly.”

That first day, Robby had decided that, for longer than Dennis probably wanted this to last, Robby would helplessly leave his door open—for him to come unannounced, to come every day, to roll in the sheets and to linger, to place his things among Robby’s and lose sight of them, to give Robby the joy of discovering one of his sweaters, or one of his books, or one of his handwritten notes when cleaning out his closet before Pesach: unadulterated, tangible proof of him. Proof that he was to come back, proof that he was to stay.
Naturally, Robby told none of this to him.
