Well, usually that's what alpha scent did to Kip. Usually he'd subtly pull away and put some distance between himself and whoever was invading his nostrils. This alpha, though, was having the opposite effect. That grounding musk with a hint of lavender and blueberries wasn't in the least bit offensive. No, it was…nice. Calming. It was making Kip feel a little lighter on his feet, actually. His constantly-worrisome brain was quieting down as he stared into the green irises looking back at him with intensity. There’s Lily, Shane’s Boston girl, but Hayden has no idea her number, where she lives, or what she looks like. She’ll have no way of finding Shane, of being there when he wakes up high and afraid, because he never did well with being out of control. Lily won’t be there. His parents won’t be there.
It’s the easiest decision he’s ever made.
Hayden skates off the rink, barely pausing as he starts stripping off his gear. Coach surges forward, lips curled up with some order to get back out there, no doubt. He doesn’t give him the chance, “I’m not leaving him. I go where he goes.”
And that’s that.
