Summary
The painting is one he remembers sitting for, when he was eleven, at the beginning of May. He looks at it now, the dust on the frame, the way the old untreated paint has begun to fleck around the corners, the fear in his younger eyes; even living paintings reflect what they see, and this Draco has been in Malfoy Manor for the past two years, as regrettably as the corporeal version. He is smaller than Draco ever remembers being, but there are no bags under his eyes, and when he resumes looking back behind the perspective, towards his mother, there is childish pride and love there.
“I’m sorry,” he tells the little boy in the portrait. He feels hot against his eyes but he refuses to cry, or to feel much of anything.

And John goes into this endless spluttering explanation about how Sherlock is a very complicated person and we just don’t know. We can’t be sure. And the next time they’re over at 221B Rosie looks up from Sherlock’s picture book about poisonous plants, gives Sherlock a look and asks, 'Are you gay, Sherlock?' and Sherlock, without missing a beat, just says 'Yes,' and continues drinking his tea, and Rosie says 'Ah,' and goes back to her plant book, and John nearly doubles over in the corner."

“You really let this place fall to shit when you’re alone.” Somehow life goes on, cruel and unfair as ever. Somehow, it’s been three days and the door to his office is left wide open though Erwin knows he had locked it. Shutting out the world is one thing, something he learned and honed long before accepting the title of Commander. Shutting out Levi is another thing entirely, almost impossible and decidedly not worth the astounding amount of effort it would take to try.
