"Just be friendly, engaged, polite," she listed off. "All things you are very good at. If they say anything that throws you off, just go with it. We're on a new planet, there's bound to be some shit we're not familiar with." She shrugged. "Just go with the flow."

'Love, like family, is a notion Daisy has a strange relationship with. She used to think it was a lie, that a romantic, unconditional kind of love was an urban myth, or something invented by Hallmark to sell cards. They studied love poems in English class in high school and she thought that’s all love was; an interesting idea, a concept that sounded nice in fiction. Akin to mermaids.'
