I make my way back to the bar to close my tab, body high on the sweat and movement. I set my tip on the bar and turn to walk back to Kai, finding myself face to face with you.
Your face flashes confusion first, then anger. “What are you doing here?” you spit.
My face is hot and I can feel my pulse rise. “Picking up my dry cleaning. What the fuck does it look like I’m doing here?”
Your brows furrow. You grab my wrist, pulling me out the back exit beside the bar. I’m so stunned I move with you before my mind has time to think. The music dulls to a hum as the door closes and I rip my wrist from your hand. “What the fuck are you doing? Get off me.” I reach for the door handle and you slam your hand on the door, pinning it closed. “What?”
“We should talk,” you say, voice low.
