Problem two: those eyes. Dexter is weak for them, pathetically so. Pastel blues framed by a fan of long, silver lashes, innocent when they catch his gaze during class. Not so innocent when they're alone like this; pressed next to one another on the tufted chesterfield in Dexter's office, sharing wine and heat. Close enough to share breath.

“You seem competent so I am willing to entertain you,” Nanook says, rolling up his sleeves. “But why don’t we set some stakes tonight?”
Zephyro’s grip tightens, the leather of his glove pulling taut. Given his strength, Nanook had every right to be arrogant, Zephyro could accept that much. But it was the insufferable sense of entitlement, bordering on brattish, that he refused to tolerate.
“Name it, you won’t be alive to see it anyway.”
“So confident, I like you.” He licks his lips, amused. “If I win this fight, I get to hire you.”
“I’m not looking for a job.”
“You misunderstand me, Zephyro.” Nanook’s mouth curves into a devilish grin. “I’m not giving you a choice.”
Zephyro is commissioned by a rival gang to take down Nanook. Remarkably, his opponent is just as eager for a fight as he is.

Summary
“Ladies.” Nanook’s gaze shifts to the escorts. “My partner and I need to discuss business. I promise it will put you to sleep.”
Uncertain giggles follow, but even civilians are capable of reading the room. Scrambling for their things, the women slip past security, Khaslana trailing behind with his head ducked low.
“Not you.”
Nanook’s voice stops Khaslana mid-step. He turns on his heel, a polite smile in place. “Would you like another round, sir?”
The corners of Nanook’s mouth lift.
“Stay,” he says smoothly. “For entertainment.”
Nanook enlists Zephyro's help in recruiting Khaslana, a vigilante turned government agent, to the syndicate. Zephyro assumes they'll use brute force, Nanook has something different in mind.

“Have you not also ruined me?” A calloused thumb finds the corner of Khaslana’s mouth, brushing softly. “I’ve made exceptions for you. I've crossed every line I swore I’d never cross — for you.” Nanook leans in, tone hushed. “Surely you know what I am trying to say.”
Pinned between the unrelenting weight of Nanook’s body and the wall behind him, Khaslana’s resolve wavers.
“Say it then,” he demands. “If I mean anything to you, say it — just once. Or let me go.”

But one drink becomes two. Remembering Pontos’ stern warning, Sylvester tells Dexter he should go soon. He says more than he needs to, drunk and rambling, letting slip that Pontos isn’t too fond of Dexter and he hasn’t the faintest clue why.
Dexter laughs it off with an easy shrug. “Can’t please everyone, I suppose.”
Distracted, Sylvester doesn’t catch the malicious glint of interest in Dexter’s eyes.

Sometime around coffee number four and cough medicine dose number two, an all too familiar sound at the window draws Sylvester's attention—the rustle of wings and the scratch of claws.
Sylvester rubs his forehead, the throbbing behind his eyes intensifying at the arrival of this problem. “This is breaking and entering,” he informs Pontos.
“Am I not allowed to visit my favorite boy?” The reply is careless, an affable smile on Pontos’ face as he ducks through.
