Jack leaned his head against Art’s shoulder. He felt bone-weary. It rivaled even the consecutive nights without sleep and the blood loss he’d experienced when they’d fought to save Lucy from her illness.
“How do we go back, Art?” he asked miserably. There was no unknowing what they knew, no way to unsee the horrors they’d experienced. How could anything be normal, after all of this?
Art turned towards him, draping an arm around Jack. “We don’t, old boy. There’s only forward from here.”
