Summary
Drew didn't remember there being any certain point of realization; no specific moment where windows shattered as it hit him, no trains of thoughts colliding in their tracks, no fireworks exploding in the sky. One day he just took a glimpse of Jake (as Drew tended to do these days, stealing small, guilty looks he made sure no one would notice), who had been sitting on the other side of the classroom (ignoring his existence), and he had known that the hurt emotion in the expanse of his chest was there to stay.
The hardest part was accepting he should never act on his insistent longing. They weren't friends anymore. In this universe, Drew and Jake had no future together.
(In which unresolved feelings and a rare disease are slowly taking all color out of Drew's life.)

“Look!” Hailey pushes herself upright, enraptured. Lia doesn’t even bother to look at the sky until she realises that they’re no longer holding hands.
A comet, Northern-Lights-green and streaking carbon, soars through the air, more like a bird taking flight than a compound of heat and rock. A pretty kind of destruction. Decay, made an art. It’s a stroke of fire.
Hailey gasps. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
She isn’t looking at the comet. “Yeah. It is.”

“Ohh, you’ve never kissed anybody?”
Drew whipped his head to look at him, “No? I thought you knew this.”
Jake shrugged, “I dunno, I guess I just assumed. I mean, I had my first kiss in 8th grade, so..”
Drew rolled his eyes “Way to rub it in, jackass.”
“Hey!” Jake lightly flicked the side of Drew’s head, “Don’t be like that, I just mean like since you’re way cooler than me you would have more experience.”
Drew finally sat back up, face stony and unamused. “Yeah, well, I don’t” he stated flatly.
Jake looked down, fiddling with his hands and not knowing what else to say. Drew was right before, he couldn’t really help with this issue, other than being supportive.

Unless...// in which drew is anxious about not having his first kiss yet, and jake has one of his patented brilliant ideas.
