Summary
Niki had had a quiet childhood. In the backwards reaches of the Earth Kingdom, she had grown up surrounded by stone and peace; she’s told it had taken weeks for the news to even reach them that the old water Avatar had died. She, of course, was too young to remember. Niki had been born in early spring, as the earth began to blossom around her, and the stone had known her name.

Summary
If any part of them can be happy, Layla muses, it must be Imogen. For the love of all good things, the girl is made of her smile - out of place on Marc’s craggy, lined face, even despite the crows’ feet Steven wears more tightly when he’s at front. But there’s a solemness to her, some depth to her movement and patterns of shadow, that reminds Layla she isn’t, could never have been, a real child.
“Marc thinks you’re very pretty,” she says once, knowledgeably, as though sharing a secret. She and Layla are sitting at their kitchen counter together - Imogen had been delighted by the barstools, and the fact that she was tall enough to reach them - sipping smoothies Layla had blended up, banana and yoghurt and strawberry. (Imogen had flinched at the noise, then soothed herself quickly, rubbing hands up and down the fabric of her jeans.) “He says it like it’s a secret so I thought I’d tell you. Cos it’s funny.”

Summary
The Witcher rides along a silent, stormy road. There are dark clouds ahead of him and dark towns behind. His mount’s hooves strike the stones, echoing in the absence of any other sound; even the chirping insects and small creatures by the roadside are silent for the Witcher’s passage.
Technoblade’s never much liked the whole imposing air he gives off when he’s travelling, but it is what it is.

Summary
Eret is vulnerable this morning; the others, she thinks, are close to front. But she has tea scheduled with Niki, and she promised that she'd try to be friends again.
(Eret didn't want to mention to Niki that she was exploring her newly-rediscovered plurality, much less to have a little let that slip for her. Niki, though, does her best to understand.)

Jake was pressure. A shifting in the corners of his eyes, an urge to hold his shoulders slightly hunched, a lightness at his hip like some familiar weight was missing - his faint presence just beyond front, and Marc was bitterly familiar with it. He would like to say he felt guilty about lying to Steven, but he’d done it before and he’d do it again - it was for the best.
