Meng Yao makes do. And in the midst of all the chaos, there is still Lan Xichen. He is gentle and distant, kind when he doesn’t need to be. Meng Yao helps him when Cloud Recesses falls, tells himself it is because Lan Xichen could be a powerful ally, but somewhere he knows Lan Xichen merely confuses him. He has never met someone so intent on playing at kindness.
It is unthinkable that he is not actually playing.
