Summary
Ed couldn’t pinpoint the moment he fell for the man, but he could recall almost every embarrassing thing he’d done in front of said stranger since. Most of it he could play off, like tripping but righting himself quickly, or spilling water out of an overflowing bucket. Even if most of it got on his shoes, or even worse, in his boots. Normally, Ed forgot these occurrences as soon as they happened, only notable if they caused a particular scrape or bruise.
However, it was rather impossible to play off accidentally stabbing yourself in the thigh with a hypodermic needle. While making eye contact with a dashing stranger. Thankfully Ed managed not to flinch, but he did audibly grunt, albeit softly, as he pulled the needle out. He also didn’t miss the way [Stede’s] eyes widened in thinly concealed horror.

Alternatively: Ed is a zookeeper and Stede is a visitor. Falling in love was secondary, but inevitable.

“Where are we going?” Wee John immediately asked.
“Lucius has volunteered to coordinate the logistics,” Stede said, turning with a graceful flourish of his hand to face Lucius.
Lucius’ eyes widen and his eyebrows shoot up to his hairline. “The… the what?” he stutters.
“The logistics. Of our crew dinner. After rehearsal tonight.” Stede repeats, brows creased.
“Oh,” Lucius said under his breath. “Oh no.”
_____Stede and his theater group end up at Waffle House for a crew dinner. Ed is the manager at said Waffle House.

Summary
Izzy could be a right asshole, no doubt, but Frenchie saw right through that immediately. He talked a big game and put on a good show, but there was no disguising the way he would listen to Stede’s stories at night, or almost relax when he actually sat down for dinner. When Blackbeard and Stede came back together, deciding to resume co-captaining and flee the area as fast as possible, Frenchie watched Izzy, unsure how he would react. Most of the crew ran over to welcome and congratulate them. Izzy lingered behind, waiting for the crowd to disperse before he approached Ed. Frenchie took the opportunity to give Stede his own well-wishes, making sure to half-listen to Izzy while he was at it.
