Summary
The curtains open and they saunter on stage together to the music. The crowd cheers and hollers, calls out their names. Merriell can barely hear them over the sound of the piano and violins. Quickly, he scans the faces, until he finds Eugene in his usual spot, third row, center. He’s wiped the lipstick from his face and put on proper clothes, but his hair is a wild mess and his cheeks are flushed red. As promised, Merriell blows him that kiss before moving across the stage.

Summary
A lump catches in his throat as he stares. The dreams of his youth printed in black and white. It's good that someone's bought it, he decides. It's not like he was going to be filling it up with a family anytime soon. It should make someone happy.
He turns the page, continues the article. On the second page, there's another picture of the house, this time a little closer, and the renovator standing in front of it, squinting at the camera with a hint of a smile on his face. A grin that Eugene knows, on a face that had started to fade from his memory. That lump in his throat grows, almost choking him
Merriell Shelton plans to sell the house to the right buyer. "It's a special house," he says, "it needs the right person."

Summary
An alternate universe of the canon, where Dean Winchester is Ben Braeden's father. Dean and Lisa have been dating on sporadically since their bendy weekend together, and he's a figure (albeit, occasionally a fleeting one) in Ben's life.
These stories aren't in an order, though they do happen at various times. Don't have to be read in an order.

Summary
He finds it in the library. The book is tucked between a couple of self-help books that Mike told him he should look into reading. It’s out of place—doesn’t belong there—but the title peaks his curiosity. How to Bring Someone Back from the Dead. He grabs the spine of the book and gently holds it in his hand, inspecting it. There’s no author, no other information, just a title and a short dedication of sorts on the first page. “For those that have hope still lingering in their hearts…” He looks around, making sure no one is watching him before he swiftly hides the small book in the pocket of his jacket.

Summary
The disconnect is painful. I live in parking lots now; kicking around outside with a cigarette while everyone indoors has that warm fucking moment of human connection. Burgie says I’m on the pity parade. My therapist says I’m adjusting. I don’t know who to listen to so I just listen to neither of them.

Summary
By the time Merriell makes his way to Mobile, Eugene Sledge is long gone. He came into town, expecting the worst, Eugene with a pretty debutante on his arm, pipe in his mouth, and a look of hatred in his eyes.
Instead, he’s gone, and when he shows up in dress blues at the Sledge’s front door, feeling sick from the uniform, from the humidity, from the fear of Sledge forgetting, or worse yet: remembering; the door is shut in his face. It’s done politely, of course, the servant telling him that Eugene Sledge no longer lives there, but Merriell darts a glance behind the man in all white, dark skin shining from sweat in the heat and sees the flat line of Mrs. Sledge’s mouth and knows that it’s true.

Summary
“It’s alright, you know,” Snafu murmured after a few silent seconds, trailing one hand up the length of Eugene’s back so he could stroke through his hair. Eugene made a muffled noise of inquisition into the collar of Snafu’s shirt and Snafu clarified, “That you like it.”
“Like what?” Eugene managed, clumsily pretending at ignorance.
Snafu clearly wasn’t interested in indulging the charade because he provided with pointed immediacy, “When I call you my wife.”
