Maybe it wasn't something sudden, then. Had probably felt like this for a long while, he thinks. Just didn't realize it until that moment he stood stock still staring at Niall laughing at his own lack of coordination as Harry missed half of his Little White Lies solo.

“Christmas. It’s his thing you know. Goes a bit crazy about it every year to be honest. I just saw your classroom and… He’s gonna be mad at you. Or kiss you for actually being just as crazy as him. I can’t say which one is most likely to happen.”
“K-Kiss me?”
“Come on, H. You can’t be that oblivious?”

They’re completely covered in flour, and by the time Niall manages to calm down his face is streaked with tears of mirth. Harry finally rolls off of him, though he makes no move to pull himself up, looking Niall over instead. “You’re all red,” Harry giggles when he turns to look at him, “all red and white from the powder.”
“Like a candy cane,” Niall laughs, and Harry snorts beside him so hard it sends a puff of flour into the air. Niall dissolves into another fit of hysterics, rolling onto his side to clutch at his stomach. Harry looks down at him with the biggest and fondest smile, and suddenly Niall realizes how close they are – how he’s practically curled into Harry’s side. How, if Bobby wouldn’t have appeared in the kitchen right at that moment, Niall could have reached out and kissed him.

“Gotcha. Have you been working out? That cheek felt a lot more toned than usual.” Harry muses and Niall knows is the thing, he knows Harry’s only teasing but a shiver still runs down his spine because Harry could feel his clenched arse from his dirty thoughts.
“No money or time for that mate, I’m a student remember. Reckon I have our ridiculously cheap dorm building to thank for never getting ‘round to fixing the elevators.” Niall spills out and he’s very proud of his quick thinking.
“Ah, the woes of going to university,” is what Harry says in reply, seemingly accepting of Niall’s excuse and acting none the wiser. “At least we still get lukewarm beer and student discounts at Selfridges!”
Niall didn’t think his first year of University would mean constantly shagging roommates, climbing endless flights of stairs, and falling in love. He just wanted to study English Lit, honest.

The first time they meet, it’s in a 30′′ by 30′′ shower stall, barely enough space to breathe, let alone for two people to squeeze under the spray. Niall hears the door hinges squeal after he’s been inside for barely three minutes, and not for the first time this semester, he wishes that these communal showers at least had locks. “Um,” Niall says, unsure whether he should try to reach for his towel to cover his ass and risk it getting soaked. He has shampoo in his eyes.
Or the one in which Niall and Harry keep not-so-accidentally running into each other and Niall tries to hate Harry but he really, really can’t.

Summary
Niall’s voice is quiet and soft when he lets out a “thank you” and stands on his tiptoes to reach Harry’s cheek and kiss it gently.
He smiles shyly at him, and takes a step back. Looking back at the window trying to hide his blushing cheeks, and says, “The sandwiches must be waiting for us. Let’s go Haz, I’m starving.” And it’s loud and bright again, it makes Harry smile, because there’s something about Niall that makes it so easy, to give the other a nickname so carelessly, but making it sound so personal, to share a small kiss on the cheek and then burst out shouting how funky the noises his belly is making are.
Niall makes it easy, simple, and Harry’s thankful his dad decided it was time to clean the chimney.

Or, Niall is a chimney cleaner and Harry finds it hard to not fall for him.
