A slow burn set during the five year mission, in which Spock's body knows what it wants long before Spock is willing to name it, Jim Kirk has always been paying attention, T'Pring is more understanding than expected, McCoy is a better doctor than anyone deserves, and the hunger is a metaphor and also completely literal.

“What’s this all about?” Erik asked as Charles wasted no time in moving to position himself straddling Erik. It took longer than it once did, but Charles was just as determined as always and wasn’t about to let anything stop him.
Charles shook his head and then moved in once again, his mouth going back to Erik’s neck. He let him go but wasn’t about to be diverted so easily. “Really, Charles, what’s going on? You seem like a man on a mission.”
