Summary
There’s something wrong with your right eye. It fucks up your depth perception, worse even than if it had gone completely blind - it still half-works, giving everything around you a muffled look, a murky, smeared blur that only really manages to pick up movement. Next to useless, another breakage to add to your growing pile of broken things.
Yet you swear, at night, when you squint the other eye – the good eye – closed, your vision is sharper than ever. You wonder, sitting in front of the fireplace at night, if the light ever reflects off the iris, remembering the way yellow eyes blinked out from beyond the darkness just before you were dragged away in the night.
Something in you is changing, and you don’t yet know what.

Summary
She finds Laudna sitting by the window ledge, deep in thought.
Imogen’s been finding her like this more and more in the few days since she’s been brought back, moments when she’d just stare out into the distant blue for hours, in long stretches of contemplative silence. Laudna might be back, but she’s just a little different - not that Imogen blames her, after all she’s been through. Waking up in Whitestone, freshly alive, with a body that no longer oozed black and a mind that no longer echoed with whispers - it’s a big change. Anyone's bound to be a little different. Still, it’s hard to see her so closed off, so distant from the rest of the group. So distant from her.
Imogen breathes in and approaches.
“Mind some company?”

“Santos, I-” Langdon started.
“Save it. It’s not the first time I’ve been chewed out for something that isn’t my fucking fault.” She snapped, voice raised to try and disguise the tremble of it. Oh how she longed for him to argue back, let her direct all the fucking embarrassment and shame and hurt away from the lump in her throat and outwards. See if she cares about blowing up at her workplace, let them discipline her.

Summary
Al-Hashimi laughed again, almost mockingly. The mean lilt of it was so far removed from the emotionless, hyper-professional image Santos had built of Al-Hashimi in her mind that it stunned her into silence.
"I'm afraid you may have misplaced your faith," Al-Hashimi bit back.
In a rundown diner at five o'clock in the morning on July 5th, Santos loses one hero and finds another.

Summary
“Call a therapist”. The precision of the cut Yolanda absolutely meant to make but surely didn’t aim for such depth – was another thing to think right after the memory of Langdon’s voice daring to utter; “I’d be happy to teach Dr. Santos” and Garcia not even blinking when –
Picking up the phone and saying, “No”, when Yolanda asked to swing by for the evening; was the easiest thing Trinity had done all week.
But following up with, “I think we’re done”, had choked the oxygen out.
She didn’t catch the flutter of Yolanda’s breathing; too busy trying to fight her way out the window to sit on the hot metal of the fire escape and try to suck in a clear inhale. She did catch the precise delivery of a “cool, thanks for the heads up”, before Garcia hanged up the phone.
Or
Trinity never expected her apartment to have a steady, rotating population of med students.

Summary
Twenty to thirty years. She had done the math in that courtroom and landed on thirty-seven and let herself exhale for the first time in years. She had been seventeen and wearing a blouse her mother had pressed the night before because her mother had needed something to do with her hands in the same way her Nanay was cooking all day, and she had sat in the second row and listened to the sentence and let the number settle over her like something solid. Like a foundation. Like something she could build on top of.
She was twenty-eight.
And he had been good.
