The lack of what might have been permeated the air. Louis let himself experience the full weight of loving someone who had escaped his grasp for the first time in years.
He was about to close the album when he noticed a final note, so faint he missed it every time, written in Zayn's handwriting at the very bottom of the page. "Some people are destined to be superheroes… you are mine."
As he sat there with just the memories of what was and the promise of what might never be, the words sliced through him, unvarnished and raw.
