“Dorian?” An echoing whisper, the walls murmuring to one another as he passes. He holds himself close, his arm tight against his chest and fist bundled. Loose strands of hair wisp around his face, his neck. He ignores the pinpricking pain in his feet. “Dorian?” That warbling echo again, his voice cast out only to return to him sounding less uncertain, more impatient. He listens for something deeper. The snow continues to fall, creates a blanket of nothingness. It amplifies the friction of his thoughts, a grain so loud it threatens to drown out the silence.

Frivolous. A pointless waste of coin. An even more pointless exercise. She imagines all the things Shadowheart could say to her purchase, to her request. Unexpectedly, she doesn’t say any of it. “I suppose,” Shadowheart says reluctantly and then quickly, pointedly, “although I rather don’t see the point.” She moves to sit in a sudden, fluid, movement, and her hands perch impatiently on her knees. No time wasted, Widu forges forward to sit behind her, mirroring the cross-legged posture. Hesitation, at first, unsure at how to deconstruct that which is Shadowheart’s hair. Starting at the bottom seems possibly best.

Summary
Light plays at dancing through the trees, and shadows a pattern over them. Her reaching fingertips brush up against the branches and leaves which curl downwards into their path. She plucks one as she passes, turning it between her fingers – a dizzying spin of greens, yellows and reds. Merrill and Isabela catch her attention and so she lets it go. It floats away from her, landing the step behind him. She’s turning to listen to what Merrill is telling her as they walk, and he watches the edge of her smile. The warm glow of the setting sun haloes around Hawke’s profile. It sets fire to all it touches, from the stray strands of her hair in the breeze, to what seeps through her fingers as she talks, landing on him. Fenris knows he must tell her soon.

“Varric’s written a lot of romance novels,” Anders says, “do you think he’s secretly… you know?” He looks up to where Fenris stands beside him. Resting his weight on one leg as he reads over labels which hold no importance for him, crossing his arms as he frowns. He looks at Anders.
“Out of all of us, Aveline is the only one to achieve complete romantic success.” Anders reels, and then his chin drops to his chest.
