    Summary

In 2008, Shane Hollander was the Next Big Thing in hockey. Then a baby he didn't know he had changed everything. Shane walked away from the MLH draft, choosing a life of diapers and midnight feedings over the Stanley Cup. Eighteen years later, his life is back on track, and his greatest achievement is about to make his MLH debut for the Ottawa Centaurs.

Ilya Rozanov, captain of the Centaurs, has only one goal: secure his Canadian citizenship, come out, and finally live life on his own terms. He remembers Shane Hollander as a pretty boy from a World Juniors game in Saskatchewan. He doesn't expect to find that same boy back in his sightlines—not as a player, but as the father of his newest rookie.

Or: The one where Shane is a world-class "dadager", Ilya is a pining captain, and Luca Hollander just wants to play his rookie season without his captain and his father making heart eyes at each other across the family lounge.

Cardiac tamponade: pressure on that heart that prevents it from filling and beating adequately.

Shane thought he knew two things: his move to Ottawa would cause chaos, and that the Ottawa Centaurs were nice.

As it turned out, he only knew one of those things.

(Or: the Cens are still a team of professional hockey players. They're going to fuck up.)

    Summary

In 2009, Shane Hollander was picked first in the MLH draft, but he didn’t feel like he earned it. Deep down, it felt like a reminder of his place in the MLH because, compared to Ilya, he was the far more palatable omega.

In 2009, Ilya Rozanov was told how excited the Montreal Metros were to have their first omega player while his brother hissed under his breath at him in Russian. Ilya was not meant to draw attention to himself. Ilya reminded Alexei that if he didn't want any attention drawn to him then he shouldn't have let him pursue hockey.

In 2005, Alexei Rozanov dumped his father's body in a frozen lake, knowing it would not be found until the ice melted. By then, the evidence would be gone: the kitchen cleaned, the knife disposed of, and the blood on Ilya's hands washed away.

    Summary

Ilya doesn’t remember slamming his fist down on the counter. Or even making the decision to do so. The thing he won’t ever be able to forget, however?

Is the quiet, almost inaudible intake of breath from behind him. The wide-eyed expression of pure, unadulterated fear on Dima’s face when Ilya, ripping the headphones off his head, whirls around to look at him. Dima’s defensive stance, his tense shoulders, his harsh breathing, the wariness with which he’s staring at Ilya as if Ilya’s—as if he’s everything Dima’s ever been afraid of in his life, made real and palpable right in front of him.

[5 times Ilya has to contend with the heartbreaking fact that his nephew is terrified of him, plus the 1 time he realizes that might not actually be true anymore.]

    Summary

Cliff hates the waiting game, mostly because it goes on way too long. A year. A year of trying to find a moment to bring up the ring, casually mentioning Jane where it won’t push Roz away, making exasperated eye contact with his teammates with each failed lead.

The Boston Bears just want their captain to be happy, they don't mean to uncover the most well kept secret in the NHL.
Good thing the rookies are cute, Rozanov can't yell at cute.
