Summary
Manchester City was the only team that made Roy feel this old. His knee hurt, his muscles felt like wet cement, and his head was pounding at the thought of listening to an overly chipper pep talk. The score hadn’t been that ugly—3 to 2—but it felt ugly. Roy was ready to get the hell home and drown himself in his own shower, but there was a security guard poking his head into the locker room, waving him down, before he could even change out of his kit.
“You got a guy named Jamie here for you today?” the security guard asked. “Kid’s banged up, but he won’t let me take him to first aid—just keeps asking for you.”
Roy was on his feet immediately, fatigue gone, ignoring his teammates’ questioning looks.

Summary
“This,” Roy says slowly, hand rubbing comforting circles into Jamie’s hip. “Is Isle Jay.”
“Babe,” Jamie’s heart thumps loudly in his chest. “You found an island named after me for our honeymoon? Dead romantic, that.”
“Jamie. I didn’t find it. I bought it. For you. It’s yours.”

Summary
It was just a slip of the hand, really.
One second Jamie is chopping an onion, blinking away the sting from his eyes and arguing with Roy over the clear superiority of Stevie Nicks versus whatever crap he was currently playing, and the next blood is spilling over the side of his hand, pooling on the cutting board like a blossoming flower.

Summary
Jamie drops his kit bag beside him, and takes a deep, tired breath, not moving just yet. Roy slides a hand up his back to give the nape of his neck a gentle squeeze.
"Is this okay, Jay? Can I look after you tonight? I'd like to, if you don't mind it."
After a long moment, Jamie nods.

Jamie’s mind goes a little younger when he’s stressed. Luckily, he’s got just the right person to take care of him.

Summary
“Hey man,” Eddie says, sliding into the seat next to Buck and pulling him out of his thoughts. “You good? You’ve been staring at that wall for a while now.”
Buck blinks as he raises his head, caught off guard by Eddie’s concern. Part of him wants to snap at Eddie—tell him to go ask Hen, since they’re so close now. Buck’s jealousy has always had teeth; a beast he doesn’t always know how to control, or how to keep from snapping its jaws at people.
But right now, it’s overshadowed by the excitement of Eddie looking at him; seeing him. There’s a warmth spreading through his chest, one he hasn’t felt in a little while, and all he can think is more, more, more and look at me, look at me, look at me.
Keep looking at me. Look at me forever, because when no one looks at me, I feel like a ghost.
Or: Buck doesn't know how to handle the way everything is changing and it makes him fall back into old habits.
