Summary
Planting one foot in the stirrup, she hopped back up onto Zora’s saddle, gently squeezing her sides to start her toward the gate. She promised herself that once they got back on the main path, she would leave her thoughts about that woman behind at the ranch. But even as Zora sped up to a gallop and the prairie grass whipped past them, the property long lost to the hills behind them, she couldn’t stop thinking about a freckled, scarred face, and those pretty brown eyes.

Summary
Bright Falls, like any small town, had its legends and superstitions. One of the more recent rumors floating around was that of a great winged monster prowling the shores of Cauldron Lake. Some say that by beating its wings, it had caused the tornado that wrecked the town in 2010, snatching victims from their homes and feasting on their flesh. Some say it’s an angry spirit, taking revenge on the people that had destroyed its forest for the logging industry. Others liken it to Mothman, or some creature created by the FBC when they took Cauldron Lake. And others still wave it away as nothing more than a hoax, a simple myth meant to keep people out of the woods.
However, some myths have more truth to them than others. The story of the owl and the deer, but perhaps a bit too literal for their liking.

Summary
The man before him was coated with mud and blood, shivering violently in the cool night air. His dark hair was tangled and matted, and though it hung in his face, it couldn’t cover the gleam of fear in his eyes. Dark lake water lapped against the shore, perfectly still and glassy towards its center. The water was so dark that its smooth surface didn’t reflect the stars shining brilliantly above their heads.
Jack put out a calming hand, like he was trying to approach a rabid dog. “Hey, it’s okay, man. Can you tell me your name?” He asked, his voice quiet.
The man looked at him, eyes wide and unblinking. He opened his mouth and closed it a few times, before a distressed noise crawled up his throat. “I don’t… I can’t remember,” he whispered, the whites of his eyes bright with fear. And that’s when the stillness of the lake behind them shattered and something screamed.
