With arms around her that are both thin like willow branches but strong, Nangong Jingnu hiccups through another sob. She thinks she should beat this man to death for daring to touch her. “I want to go home!” she wails.
Agula pulls Nangong Jingnu’s hands away from her face so she can look deep into those onyx eyes. “When the Luo River freezes, I will take you home,” she says.
Nangong Jingnu catches herself on another sob, staring at Agula’s amber eyes. Suddenly, she does not feel she’s looking at a random tribesperson.
