Summary
Despite being his best friend, roommate, and business partner, there was surprisingly little that Cheng Xiaoshi really knew about Lu Guang.
His roommate rarely shared anything about his past life. In fact, to-date, all that Cheng Xiaoshi had been able to pry out of him was that he was:
1. An only child
2. Allergic to bananasCheng Xiaoshi was still unsure if that second one was an actual allergy, or just one of those things Lu Guang said because he didn’t enjoy the fruit's texture.
He was unsure about a lot of things about Lu Guang. It frustrated him.
The younger boy was decidedly a closed book. Conversations about their childhoods always circled back to Cheng Xiaoshi, so did ones about their parents, friends, and dating lives before they met each other. Cheng Xiaoshi had been able to shrug it off before, but the longer they knew each other the more it felt like Lu Guang was keeping secrets.
He seemed particularly nervous about the topic of romance.

cheng xiaoshi ignores that and gestures at the television, where vein’s photo takes up the entire left side of the screen. a reporter is discussing the bridon police’s investigation and how local law enforcement is cooperating after discovering cctv footage showing him boarding a flight that landed in the country a week ago. “remember him? i feel really bad for never reaching out to xia fei again… i hope he’s…”
when he looks at lu guang, cheng xiaoshi trails off because though he’s stopped pressing the topic, he knows that this is that distance between them.
or: sometimes lu guang seems lost in his own world and cheng xiaoshi will do anything to pull him back into this one.

Though he wanted to press him more, Cheng Xiaoshi dropped it. They were nearly home now, cutting up concrete steps partially illuminated by cool street lamps, back to the more residential city streets. Qiao Ling and Lu Guang were discussing something, maybe work related, but the words jumbled together, washing over Cheng Xiaoshi as he became lost in his own thoughts, revelling in the light breeze kissing his skin, in Lu Guang remaining close by his side. Then it hit him. Though Lu Guang said he didn't mind Cheng Xiaoshi touching him…when had Lu Guang ever initiated a hug? His brain ached as he attempted to conjure up a memory of this happening, but he couldn’t recall a single one.
That night, as Lu Guang deposited him into his bed and left him a glass of water on the side to stave off the hangover, a sleepy and inebriated Cheng Xiaoshi formulated a plan.
Or, Lu Guang is secretly a catboy, and Cheng Xiaoshi is on a very serious mission — a quest for reciprocated physical affection. And yes, these two things are related.
