“Dude, we should, like, test him.” Gareth says while passing the shared joint over to Jeff. They were hanging out in Steve’s backyard, a small party going on around them. Maybe it's disrespectful to be gossiping about a man whose backyard you’re smoking in and whose beer you’re drinking, but Eddie considers every misdemeanor towards Steve pay back, nowadays.
“Test him?”
“Yeah, like, everyone here thinks he’s so great, y’know? Except for us, of course. We should test him, to see if they’re right. And if they’re not, we can tell everyone, so they stop hanging out with a douchebag.”
“And how are you gonna test him, Dingus? Gonna give him a pop quiz? Ask him to name three feminist writers, tell him to write 200 words on Martin Luther King?” Jeff scoffs as he’s pulling out the grass from underneath his fingers.
He's so focused on watching Jeff’s grass-stained fingers passing him the joint that he almost misses Gareth’s suggestion. “No man,” he pouts a bit. “Eddie should like, flirt with him.”
Eddie doesn’t even feel embarrassed by his sudden coughing fit from inhaling the smoke into the wrong pipe. “I should what?!” He asks, still a little raspy from the weed.

Pete skips over the part where Patrick has a big fat fucking crush on him, and he’s scared if he’s so close to him, so close around a holiday all about love, it’s going to get out and he’s going to fuck everything up for good.
The “Please, Tricky,” is what does it for him in the end.
With his entire being screaming that this is a terrible idea, he leans his head back and says, “I’m in.”

Summary
Patrick takes a step backward like his feet have been glued to the floor. Breathing gets somewhat easier when he’s out of direct orbit. “Go put some clothes on, Wentz," he gets out. "We’ve got a stakeout to get to.” Okay, good, blunt and straight to the point; all he can manage when he’s devoting three quarters of his brainpower to resisting the urge to jump Pete right now.
He turns and puts the wall in his direct eyeline for long enough to hear Pete mutter and stomp away, sounding enough like a tantrumming three year old for Patrick to wrestle his lungs under control.
Or, a cop au in which all Patrick's been hoping for is to be given lead on the drug case his precinct has started investigating. And he does get it. Only his Lieutenant sees fit to give him a partner he really does not fucking want.
