Summary
"I lied to Mama and Papa. About ya.”
That took a surprising turn. Jade expected anything but the mention of their parents.
“Oya, that is a rather strange turn of events,” added Jade impatiently. While he tried to keep up his calm appearance, he could barely wait for Floyd’s answer – what kind of lie had made him look so guilty, miserable even? “Be more specific, I don’t bite!”
Floyd frowned.
“Yes, ya do, liar!” he pouted, even though he was clearly not in the right position to throw those words at Jade right now. He seemed to realise his mistake and cleared his throat loudly, obviously trying to move on.
“Them always talkin’ about ya being lonely was real annoyin’, honestly. I told Mama ya got a partner or whatever, so they’d leave us alone and stop worryin’.”Jade needed a date. Floyd told their family he already had one.
He asked Trey for a simple favour - a date to survive one family dinner. What he got was someone who laughed at his jokes, met his family without flinching, and looked at him like he was worth trusting. And now Jade isn’t sure what’s worse: that it’s fake, or that he wishes it weren’t. -

Summary
“This cake was dangerously delectable. A man could grow far too used to eating something like this daily.”
Trey chuckled. “It’s just cake, Jade.”
“Perhaps it is just a cake to you, Trey-san,” Jade responded, voice velvet-soft. “But for someone else…it might be the start of something far more addictive.”
“It might be the start of what, sugar addiction?” Trey raised an eyebrow jokingly, while Jade’s expression remained the same.
He just smiled faintly, slowly turning his attention back to the cake slices he received. Trey felt an unusual sensation dwelling in his chest as he watched Jade take another bite from the dessert. There was something about his expression while enjoying Trey's creations which differed from that of others – his gaze softened as if each bite held something precious.
It started with a slice of raspberry cake, until the sweetness shifted from sugar to something softer, quieter, and harder to name.

Summary
Jade’s lips slowed down steadily as he wandered off, making Trey the only one who was still eager – yet being the one to finally break away from the kiss, likely from sensing Jade’s discomfort.
“Are you alright?” he asked, sounding genuinely worried.
Jade looked deep into his eyes. It was hard for him to believe Trey was doing all of this, like that conversation in the cafeteria didn’t even happen.
“Would you still kiss me…” he started, voice quieter than intended, “if the legends were true? If I had ever tasted human flesh before?”
The line between predator and partner dissolves, and Jade is left starving - not just for flesh, but for something gentler, something worse.

Summary
Trey blinked as he watched his boyfriend in horror. He knew that Jade was a merman, he knew that in the sea he lived the life of a cold-blooded predator, but this was unexpected even from him. This… frenzy, this raw savagery, wasn’t like him.
“Jade?” he called, uncertain what to even say. “What in the Sevens are you doing?”
As Jade parted his lips to answer, the salmon slid out from the captivity of his needle-like teeth, hitting the floor with a disgusting splash sound.
Trey knew dating Jade Leech came with a few quirks - but he didn’t think one cut from a mysterious plant would turn a romantic night into a seafood horror show.

Summary
And the one emotion that confused him the most... was love.
For merfolk, partnerships were practical, fierce, often fond, but never…messy. Love, as humans understood it, was something entirely different. It was unpredictable. It could be slow and gentle, or sudden and consuming, or even wistful and agonizing. It broke people apart as often as it brought them together. It made them act foolish, feel irrational fears, and take risks that defied logic.
To Jade, it was both frightening and irresistible. An emotion stronger than others, one that even refused to obey reason – he could study or read about it endlessly and would still never quite understand how it truly works.
Love is the one human emotion Jade can’t quite understand.
But in a quiet bookstore, faced with romance novels and a gentle smile from Trey Clover, he begins to wonder - maybe the best way to understand love is to feel it.

Summary
Selfish. He was so selfish. To think he could ever indulge in something like this, someone like Trey, a human, when his lips were so stained with blood, his mouth so dreadfully contaminated.
There was so much he hadn’t told Trey, so much he’d kept to himself. And despite how often Jade used such a tactic, deception was not something he wished to use on Trey; the human didn’t deserve a partner who only knew how to lie, after all, even if he wanted Jade the same way Jade wanted him.
A part of him wished Trey would understand. Trey, who had been the only one to stay and listen to Jade’s rants, Trey, who still treated him like any other person, despite all the rumors around him—that same Trey, perhaps, would continue to stay if Jade told him now, would continue to kiss Jade until all the worries of his mind disappeared.
But Trey was still human, and their relationship was merely surface-level.
In which Jade has a secret he can never tell Trey.
