There was something wrong with Edward Cullen. Something more beyond what he shared with his siblings. Bella knew with bone deep conviction that whatever made him able to withstand three thousand pounds of speeding vehicle was something that his siblings had, too. It spoke in their void black eyes. But there was something wrong with him. And he was fixated on her, enough so that he intruded in her life, asked her where she was going, where she had been, what was she thinking. He wouldn't leave her alone, even if she begged.
Fear bloomed at the thought, like mushrooms in rotten ground.
Bella let it rattle through her. Let the fear leech out, and leave determination in its wake.

Summary
There is a bookshop in Soho. Not unusual in and of itself, but it was not the typical sort expected of that venerable neighbourhood. Local rumor was that it was in business, but not often, and was probably haunted with jilted lovers, aged spinsters, and accident prone children. The signs were faded and the old blown glass windows grimy in a manner more sordid than the adult bookstore next door. Whatever the corner shop sold was behind several layers of dust. Some of the aged lettering - looking like they hadn’t been repainted since the 19th century - said something about ‘antiquarian and unusual books’.
It was exactly the kind of murder house that Rose would have expected for a movie, not for real life.

Summary
For eleven years, they would care for and nurture one small (somewhat) mortal boy so that he may rise to his destiny of destroying the world. Or saving the world. Or leaving the world well enough alone, so that everyone who lived on it could go about their own lives of drinking wine and sharing secrets under stars, perfectly content that everything was exactly as it should be.
Eleven years was a pittance compared to the thousands they had already lived.
It would be a perfectly easy task. Wouldn't it?

“Come in, Martin,” he says, not looking up from his notes.
“Hi, Jon,” he says, and Jon stops writing at the sound of his voice. “We’re out of the green tea, but we’ve got lemon?”
Jon looks at him. Martin smiles at him in his usual tentative way as he sets the mug of tea down on Jon’s desk. Heat spikes so sharply in his gut that he twitches with it.
“Thank you, Martin,” he says, mouth dry, and he stands up.
“Oh,” he says, sounding almost surprised. He smiles again. “No-- no problem-- um, what are you--”
Jon takes Martin by the shoulders, leans up on the tips of his toes, and kisses him.
