And then, he watches in horror from behind a glass screen inside his own mind as what feels like half of Hawkins assembles in the WSQK station lounge in front of him.

He thinks about Robin, and about what she said about coming out to Steve. How free she’d felt. Will hasn’t felt free since 1983. Maybe not ever, now that he’s thinking about it. This weight has been pressing down on him forever and he’s barely shouldering it lately. And now, on top of that, Henry is using it as a weapon; a foot on his neck, ready to suffocate him if he doesn’t submit to him.
Will might not be able to free himself from Vecna and his schemes, but there’s one thing Will can do to take some of the power away from him. Henry has taken everything from him - he won’t let him take this.

With no one there to see, he lets the smile settle comfortably as it spreads, and switches apps. He’s about to shoot down Ilya’s latest attempt at desperate seduction when another text arrives.
I will play next game with no feet because cold took them.

Shane expects texts from Ilya to bring him to his knees. They do, but in another way instead.

After coming out to Rose, Shane decides he doesn't want to lie anymore, even if he isn't sure coming out will mean he gets happily ever after with Ilya. When coming out to the Voyageurs leaves him wondering what his future in Montreal might look like, he lets himself be a little selfish, he lets himself wonder if there might be somewhere else he might be happy. If Montreal wants to get rid of a generational player, he's not about to stop them, especially if it means he can get a little closer to joy.

His father would accuse him of being weak, of letting his heart lead him to stupid places. But for once in his life, Ilya can’t bring himself to care about this. He wants Shane. He wants to coax his boyfriend into ordering takeout from that place they like around the corner from Ilya’s apartment and cheating on his diet a little. Then he wants to blow him on the couch, and he wants Shane to ride him. They can shower afterwards and put some highlights on the TV before falling asleep and ignoring Shane’s alarm the next morning. He wants the peace they had at the cottage during the season, to steal those moments and get to exhale.

this fic somehow manages to be yearning ilya even though he's got shane locked down. he misses him so bad! makes me want to write a fic where ilya is drunk and whining in russian about how he wants his "girl" to boss him around and shit. literally the only thing he wants is shane and he's completely obsessed. like, this fic feels like he's almost sick with his wanting. love it so much
