Summary
Miles looks at him. “I’ve wanted to marry you since 2024.”
Ear-burning, forthright truths revealed rarely, randomly, and in the tones of a comment on the weather: Miles’ specialty. Phoenix is about to melt from the inside out. It’ll create a horror scene (in the name of love) and result in a stain that Mr. Soriel will never be able to fully get out, but then, a curiosity eats through all of that, leaving nothing behind except the question: “Wait. What happened in 2024?”
And Miles says, “I’m not telling you.”
Phoenix and Miles take a trip to the tailors to get adjustments made ahead of their wedding. Something passes between them that, deep down, they already know, and a spontaneous decision gets made. Written for the Right Words nrmt zine.

Summary
When Vongole arrived, a few days after State vs. Misham, she did so with a neatly-packed crate of all her supplies, plus a dog bed and two 10 kilo bags of premium-grade dog food that were too big to fit, and an A4 manila envelope from the solicitor. Inside the envelope were the certificates of Vongole’s pedigree and the transferral of ownership papers. That last document was signed by Kristoph’s hand. There was nothing else. Klavier checked more times than he’d care to admit.
A rewrite of a piece written in 2021 for the Prosecutor Zine.

They’re at a fancy legal event, Miles is dressed in his nicest suit, and Phoenix just can’t keep it in his pants.
...Not that Miles, despite (very briefly) claiming otherwise, really has a problem with indulging him.

Summary
“Thank you for letting me do this,” Miles says.
Which is a ridiculous thing to say before having sex with someone, but it makes Phoenix go to jelly, literally, like he could burst into strawberry-flavoured gelatinous goo and fall to the towel and bed sheets, half of him being absorbed to stain the fabric pink forever, half of him staying sat there, sticky and sweet.
“Sure,” he says, nearly a stutter. He wants to say, I love you so much, please do whatever the hell you want with me, I’m already planning the flower arrangements in my head—
In which Phoenix conveniently says none of those things, or even anything close to them, while he and Edgeworth have sex for the first time.

1 - Phoenix's hair has been growing out. Miles's pining follows suit.
2 - Edgeworth likes to drive fast. He’s a bit of a prick about it.
3 - Edgeworth, and early-morning, jet-lagged musings.
4 - A rusharound at 8:32 in the morning, but new. -

Summary
After the shit-shows he was dealt by Kasady in San Francisco, and then the whatever-the-fuck-that-was in Mexico, Eddie would love to hold back on the dinner he'd planned for tonight. But he's going ahead with it anyways, because he owes Annie and Dan one.
Another thing he owes happens along the way.

Summary
As another bite sends pastry flakes raining down once more onto her lap, Daddy says, “Y’know,” and at his change in tone, at the way he says only that and then pauses, not just his speech but also his hands in his handkerchief pile, Trucy lifts her head to him. She’s greeted by his side-long gaze; expectant, as if her own gaze is late to a shared engagement. Phoenix smiles. “He’s only being so pedantic because it’s nearly done.”
Trucy stares at him. She brushes a crumb off her chin. “Really?”
The season of summer is trying its best in Amsterdam (and doing a pretty good job of it), Trucy's got magic props to sort out on the sidewalk she's co-opted, and Phoenix, as it happens, is nearly done with MASON. After years spent overthinking it herself, Trucy wants to know what her dad thinks that'll mean.

Summary
Not fucking a long-time childhood friend that he happens to be helplessly in love with has always seemed like standard fare, common sense advice to Phoenix, especially when it gets progressively harder for him to compartmentalise those two things.
But Phoenix always has preferred a healthy dose of denial to common sense.

“You want food?” he asks, still breathless. “Now? Could you not’ve waited until I’d at least—” A ratty towel, held up in the shifting claw of a skinny little tendril, materialises next to Vee’s floating head. Eddie sighs and fights back a smile as he takes it. This is not the time to find that sweet. “Right. Thanks, buddy.”
YOU’RE WELCOME, Venom purrs, now back inside Eddie’s head. GROUND RULE 2.5. NOW.

Liminal spaces. That’s what schools were meant to be after hours, right? Spaces not in their usual state, spaces in the in-between, spaces you feel like you’re not supposed to be in.

Summary
She’s known him only a week, but it’s already clear to her that Klavier Gavin has high expectations of the world around him. And Ema hates people who have high expectations. It’s unrealistic. It’s blind naïvety. You have high expectations, and you set yourself up to fail. It’s something she’s seen time and time again.
And it’s a lesson Gavin needs to learn, starting off small—because it’s 8AM at a murder scene in a 7/11 and he’s already dipped his hand into her bag of Snackoos that she’d taken the convenient opportunity to buy while they were stuck here, without asking, twice now.
Ema, Klavier, attitudes towards life, and—most crucially of all—Snackoos.

ab initio - a thing being true from its beginning or from the instant of the act, rather than from when the court declared it so.
It takes a while for the truth to settle in that Phoenix has loved Miles for nearly as long as he’s known him. It takes Phoenix even longer to accept it, fully, and even longer then to declare it. -

Summary
Seven years of immobilising his emotions, minding his words, and watching his and his daughter’s backs means that Phoenix is a little more than off-kilter when all of that finally comes to its end— because taking off the mask means adjusting to the light.
