Summary
Naturally, the economic and entertainment industries had capitalized and dramatized the ridiculous complexities that come with discovering one’s romantic soulmate’s (or soulmates’) name etched onto your skin. There were online networks that could give you a bigger chance in finding your match. There was porn about meeting and then banging your soulmate on the same day when they were called to fix your toilet or deliver your pizza like we were all some sort of slightly advanced cavepeople. There were self-help books about dealing with multiple soulmate names or no names at all.
And also, for the guilty pleasure variety, you had the soaps or really corny musicals dedicated to this. Ever since Carlos was a kid, he watched horrible romantic comedies with his sisters and pretended like he wasn’t endeared by them. That’s how by age 11, it wasn’t birthdays or Christmas that Carlos looked forward to; it was the day he’d finally get his soulmate mark and kick-start his journey to finding his true love.
Oh, and racing. Those were his two sole obsessions

Summary
The move exposes his back for a split second and maybe a year ago, Carlos would have held his breath, had some kind of bolting reaction go through him because he normally did trust Charles’ speed but he always feared his recklessness. Now, he doesn’t even hesitate. He raises a palm and a seamless dome of ice seals over the gap, deflecting a volley of laser fire. Charles turns just so slightly as he feels the brief, pleasant chill at his back and his grin widens right after. He’s safe, Carlos’ got him.

When Charles woke up and realized what he saw over people’s heads was their strongest thought at the moment, he knew it wasn’t normal, but there was nothing he could do but keep the secret.
It seemed easy enough: what to buy, some violent thoughts after road rage, what to order at a restaurant. That was until his second year as Carlos’ teammate, where he thought his powers were somehow glitching.

Summary
He’s barely gotten his helmet off when his peripheral vision catches the scarlet. Charles, ever aware of the cameras surrounding them, squeezes his hand in his in a clumsy attempt of a high five and the glint in his eyes makes Carlos doubt for a second if Charles somehow also ended up in the podium without him noticing.
He’s almost beaming, he’s happy.

rafael's sound asleep in charles' lap when he finally feels eyes on him. lo and behold, in the doorway stands carlos, arms crossed with his sleeves folded up. he swallows around nothing, glancing back down at his sleeping son. "you missed dinner," he says, as neutrally as he can manage, which isn't very much at all. "and the match, too."
carlos strides over until he's standing right in front of charles and now he has to crane his neck up to look at him. he swoops rafa up into his arms, and his baby doesn't even flinch, snuggling more into his father's neck. "was he very upset?" he asks charles. "did he miss me?"
"yeah," he says simply.
there's a fire in carlos' eyes, the same ones he's passed down to rafael and sophie. "and you?"
