Summary
In an effort to help humanity explore the lands outside the walls with fewer casualties, Hange invents a device that can detect titans. But after an encounter with an abnormal on its first test run, Levi and Hange are forced to trek back to the walls alone with few supplies and no horses. Hange takes advantage of the situation by trying to get the typically private, stoic captain to open up by revealing her own secrets.
Takes place two years before canon.

Summary
They started moving from side to side, not quite aware of the particular steps of that local dance and loosely following the lazy tempo of the song. The movements were slow and careless, something completely different from their affair. Their relationship was always sharp and methodical; secret encounters away from the spotlight, different hotel rooms that smelled like liquor and roses, late-night conversations about the future of their careers, and an unspoken agreement to never fall in love, after all, they didn’t need another set of problems.
With the whole picture into perspective, Hange had been playing a losing game. Sometimes, all she wanted to do was let go of the ledge and just fall.

'They were greeted politely at the doors, and led through a huge, carved entryway, intricate pillars stretching from the shiny marble floor to the high, mural ceiling. It was a beautiful architectural feat, but the effect was wasted on Erwin’s small group, who observed the space with contempt, or else in Hange’s case, stared only at the floor where their reflections shimmered in the polished surface.
Sweet music played through a closed set of double doors up ahead, carrying with it the hum of many voices interspersed now and then with a raucous laugh, or the clink of cutlery on expensive ceramic dishes. Two men, dressed in matching uniform, bowed politely and pulled the doors open, and the sound from within spilled into the entryway, echoing into the vast space.
The ballroom was beautiful.'
