They’re in bed at Beard’s place the first time Ted admits he’s afraid he and Rebecca are making Beard boring. Or, no, not boring. Beard won’t do Ted the disservice of misrepresenting him in memory. Ted is afraid Beard is going to become bored. Is going to be an interesting person doomed to a state of boredom because his own life choices trapped him there.

Nate had hoped he would have more time to prepare before he had to explain himself to Beard, but the surprise appearance of his former colleague outside West Ham's stadium forces him to wing it.
This ended up being a sequel of sorts to my story Bit (improvized), in which Nate and Beard have an ill-fated and vaguely canon-compliant hook-up in 1.09, but I think it works just well as a standalone piece.

Standing in front of the door to Ted’s hotel room, Nate hesitates. He shouldn’t be here; it’s late, and he doesn’t want to bother Ted during off-hours. But Ted said he wanted Nate’s opinion on the players, and Nate has them all typed up, "locked, loaded, ready to rip." The match is tomorrow, and this is something he can do to help, isn’t it? Nate briefly considers pushing the envelope under the door. That way, he won’t be bothering Ted, and he’ll be able to read them at his leisure.
Ted’s words from earlier filter back to him: What are you afraid’s gonna happen?
Nate knocks.
The encounter between Nate and Ted in Liverpool goes rather differently.
