Sebastian locked onto her gaze. Then pivoted to a table piled high with unclaimed parcels.
"You'll have to tell me more about that, by the way." Shoulders rolled with purpose among boxes and bags. Nearly ritualistic, like he'd plundered them before.
A portrait of Paracelsus gave a ghostly side-eye in the greenish gloom. So did MC.
"What're you getting into?"
Paper tore; a cork popped. That was answer enough, but:
"Booze shouldn't be wasted. Finders, keepers."
The last and only time she drank with Sebastian, it was a laugh.
But funhouse mirror sort of laughter. Sweet and sour, cider, skeletons in closets. A man's face where a boy's should be, fading in and out.
A reel playing the unreal.
Still, MC couldn't shake the thought: was it forced? Did he still have some twisted compulsion to make up for… something, despite the fragile peace?
Maybe he was just bored. Big parties got old.
She had asked him to team up in Potions, and they were both planless tonight—so why not chat a bit? Kill the awkwardness, and come away all the more ready for their practicum.
And Sebastian truly drunk? Now that was an intriguing thought.
