Summary
Paul Verlaine has seen many sunsets in his life. He is lucky enough to remember the first time he witnessed one, in fact, which he understands to be a rarity. It was around then, he thinks, he felt a tinge of life, for the first time. Unintentionally, even without realisation, he did always see his existence as that of a lifeless machine, before that. He ate, because he would die if not. He breathed air into his lungs, because he would die if not. He opened his eyes, because something could kill him if he did not. But at that moment, staring at that sun, he had come to understand that opening his eyes could also mean witnessing something truly beautiful.
Or, Chuuya and Verlaine have a conversation about many things. Existence, for one.

In his cell in Sugamo, Tokyo, Yonoi patiently awaits his execution. He places a hand on his heart, on the pocket where he used to keep something precious, a memento of someone special, which he has now entrusted to another. Many years ago, he also kept something similar there, belonging to someone else, though he left it long ago in a hibiscus field.
Those two people, no longer in this world, haunt his thoughts these days.
Yonoi suspects they will accompany him until his death, and perhaps beyond.

“Ahsoka…” An all too familiar voice breathed out.
Her eyes snapped open and she had flipped onto her feet, white blades raised defensively within an instant. Mostly because Anakin Skywalker was right in front of her, not Vader. But it was still the same man who was actively trying to put a lightsaber through her heart less than fifteen minutes ago.
“Ahsoka,” His voice was soft. “It’s me… Anakin.” Her old master's face was deeply conflicted as he peacefully raised his hands in the air. “You’re safe.”
She held back her scoff. She knew she was in the past, it was painfully obvious at this point, but that didn’t stop her from being wary.
