His breath shook and nothing could have prepared Koko for the words about to come out of his best friends mouth. So quiet that Koko nearly missed it.
"And...for not being Akane."
Koko nearly punched him.

How long does it take for a person to break?
Or, better yet, 'what' does it take? How far would you have to go, to shatter the immovable? To kill the immortal?
How far would you go to lose your mind?
They underestimated. They put the weight of their world on his shoulders and expected him to carry it alone. How foolish man can be.
Why did Takemichi have to be sentenced to this?
Chifuyu already knew that answer. As he lay on the ground, outside a door which would no longer open to his call. He let a tear roll down the side of his face, finding purchase in the shell of his ear. Laying there staring at the sky, a blue that reminded him so much of those eyes; he knew.
What right did he have to pull Takemichi out, when he was the one who put him there?

Summary
Takemichi was the snow that the sins born from flame could not sunder, even when the hand that reached out was made from ash; he would hold it tight and smoulder the flames. And Mikey's hand would never taint the ephemeral cold born from a starry night sky, and snowflakes that glistened like fireflies.
Somewhere stamped into his backyard, a cigarette breathes its last, never able to escape the love of winter nights.
