Summary
For a while after the machine, after the shutdown, they kept some distance. Just a few days. Enough to catch their breath. They stayed in touch through text—dry little check-ins that sometimes spiraled into long spirals of venting and word-vomit. Mio didn’t like how much it hurt when Zoe took too long to reply. Two minutes felt like abandonment. Ten like betrayal.
So when Mio suggested Zoe stay over for a few nights—to "keep an eye on each other," she said, like it wasn’t already obvious how desperately she needed someone real in the room—Zoe said yes without hesitation.
She crashed on the couch at first, even though Mio offered the bed. Said it was fine, said she was used to hard furniture. Mio offered a real pillow. Zoe brought her own sunflower-patterned blanket. It was supposed to be a few nights. Just until they both got their footing again. Just until the nightmares weren’t so frequent. Just until Mio could fall asleep without jolting awake to shadows that weren’t there.
But then a week passed. Then two.

'"Can you talk?" Chan tries, weakly, and Minho can only let out a helpless, voiceless sob. He shakes his head, and then drops it down between his knees, gripping at his hair.
It hurts. His throat hurts so bad, and he doesn't know why, doesn't know how to fix it.
"Oh, Min," Chan breathes, reaching out - but Minho swats his hand away, shaking his head. He's sick he can't get Channie sick, too.'
Or, Minho gets sick, and it gets worse from there.
